If you are looking for a hotel in Moab that is close to the entrance of Arches and Canyonlands and feels like an adventure itself, then you need to check out Field Stn. It opened 5 months ago and they have done an amazing job transforming a former dilapidated hotel into something truly unique.
The lobby is also a gear shop and offers items for purchase from hiking pants to backpacks and bug spray and there’s also bike storage available and guide service recommendations to book on-site. Each room has a hang board, plenty of space to hang your gear and even a bike rack for those who want to keep their mountain bikes inside. You’ll also find an electric cooler for storing your drinks and food.
There are plenty of games in the lobby from ping pong to checkers, a fire pit outside where you can see live music or watch a movie screening, a pool and hot tub and a cafe that sells coffee, food and alcohol. All of the staff are friendly and each has a name badge with their area of expertise.
If you are a van dweller, there’s van parking as well with electric hookups and a hose for rinsing off your bikes as well as electric car charging. You’ll also find a separate area for showers if you are doing the van thing and laundry is free.
In fact, the biggest drawback I found was that we were on the first floor (there are no elevators) by the side door which was opening and closing all morning and night and had a loud bang every time it closed that could be heard through the thin walls. As is the case with older hotels, we could also hear our loud upstairs neighbors. So book a room away from the doors and upstairs if you can. Each room is dog-friendly as well which is great, unless you suffer from allergies so bring some allergy meds or buy on-site if necessary.
If you are more of a visual person, here is a video I put together with more offerings from the Field Stn. They are opening one in Joshua Tree in 2024 so I hope to review that one as well before my retreat in Joshua Tree if it is open!
I hope you enjoy this adventure and consider booking a spot here on your next visit to Moab!
