One of my favorite things about Moab is that you can explore quite a few places without long hiking days. This is especially helpful if you have kids that don’t want to hike, but dogs that want to run around in areas and a husband who doesn’t mind getting some mud on the tires.
Last weekend my daughter had injured her knee, so we knew hiking was out, but we wanted to have a day trip in Moab so we chose to explore Potash Road.
I will warn you, before our adventure we stopped at Sweet Cravings Bakery and I do not recommend eating here. For three subpar sandwiches and a coke we paid $45 and the sandwiches were not that great. They do have bakery treats and sweets that looked tasty, but I’d save your money and make your own sandwiches.
Potash Road- Lower Colorado River Scenic Byway U-279 is also known as Wall Street. It’s a 17 mile stretch of road that follows along towering sandstone cliffs on one side with the Colorado River on the other. There are camping spots along here, and this road also accesses climbing walls, petroglyphs and the trailheads for Jeep Arch and Corona Arch. Jeep Arch and Corona Arch trails are nice because they are on BLM land so dogs are allowed although Corona Arch has some ladders to climb that you’d have to carry your pet up if they couldn’t scramble around them.
