Gift giving is hard as an adult. Sure you might have money now, but the problem is most of your family and friends do as well. I consider myself at the age where I can buy myself what I want for the holidays and my family members can as well. I love to gift, but it has to be something fun, unique, something they wouldn’t expect, and ideally supporting a small business in the process. We are leaving for an adult-only trip to Mexico in a few weeks, so I was forced to finish my shopping early this year. I decided to put together a list for you, my adventure-seeking friends, that you can use as a gift giving guide for yourself (I’m sure you’ve been good all year!) or others.
For the traveler: A bag from Baboon to the Moon. A few years ago I bought my husband a 40L Black Hole Bag Duffle from Patagonia. He travels with it everywhere from camping to plane rides. I started receiving ads on social media for duffles from Baboon to the Moon and knew I had to get one for my brother for Christmas. I bought him the 40L as well and as a bonus the company has an after-pay option so you can break the payments down into 4 interest free. These are TSA carry-on approved, waterproof, have durable zippers, come in fun colors and a lifetime warranty. The 40L holds about 3-5 days worth of clothing and comes with backpack straps, so it’s perfect for those short weekend trips. When we take longer trips, my husband uses his for our electronics and snacks and it fits nicely under the seat.
For the camper, or someone who just hates the cold: A Selk’ bag. I’m thrilled because Selk now makes bags in kid size as well. I bought one for my sister and her husband who live in DC, but have a lakehouse in the mountains where it gets quite cold in the winter. She hates shoveling snow and works from home, so I thought one of these wearable sleeping bags would be perfect for her. She can walk the dog, shovel snow, work and pick her kids up from school and stay cozy! I received one of these to test wear about a year ago and it is awesome for camping, watching the sunrise or sunset when taking photos, and my daughter loves snuggling in it at home. For the spouse who has everything: A One Wheel. My husband has everything wants, but I knew the one thing he wouldn’t buy for himself, that he really wanted, was a One Wheel. I actually wish I had waited until Black Friday to make this purchase because the XR dropped $500 in price since they are discontinuing it. One Wheel just released the GT and the XR’s are now $300 off. You can use Klarna for breaking the payments up, but Colorado residents don’t have that option for payment yet. On the site you can buy all sorts of add-ons for your One Wheel and bundle the product with chargers, fenders, etc. The Pint is better for short commutes while the GT holds a charge for longer. You can also buy different tires for the One Wheel to make them more off-road capable. Make sure, if you buy someone one of these, you also throw in a helmet, elbow pads, knee pads and wrist guards. My husband took quite a spill on day one and the wrist guards would have come in handy!
For the mom who has everything: An ANDI Bag. My mom has everything and, at 67, doesn’t need more clothing or jackets. She also travels a lot so I decided to get her an ANDI bag for Christmas. I had actually bought her the Go bag for her birthday so she could use it on our trip to Iceland. The Go bag was perfect for holding money, passport and vaccine card as well as chapstick and a phone. For Christmas I bought her the classic ANDI which can hold a yoga mat, the straps can be refashioned to wear as a backpack, it goes over your luggage handle and it comes with a second tote inside that is perfect for when you travel and only want to take a small clutch out on the town. Their bags are also waterproof and I’ve put mine to the test traveling and it still looks brand new. You can also buy extra straps to customize your bag. For my half-sister and nieces: Aspyn Jewelry. I’ll admit, I routinely purchase Aspyn Jewelry stacks for myself. I bought these for my half-sister and nieces last year and routinely buy them for my friends for their birthdays or for retreat assistants who go above and beyond. They aren’t cheap, but they are hand-made and she can custom make stacks as well if you want something more personal. I wear mine all the time and receive so many compliments. I love how they are classy enough to wear to a nice dinner, but hearty enough to wear when I’m climbing mountains. If you have someone out there you just don’t know what to get them, I promise they won’t be disappointed with one of her stacks. You can use code Yogimagee for 15% off non-sale items.
For teacher gifts or stocking stuffers or your neighbor: EcoVessel. My neighbor loves wine and tends to share hers with us frequently. I wanted to get her something she would love that would pair well with her wine collections, so I bought her a wine tumbler from EcoVessel. They also have great containers for coffee and waterbottles, plus they’ve partnered with U-konserve to offer reusable containers and silverware and straws. I think one of their coffee mugs with a bag of coffee would be great as a teacher’s gift or a container filled with homemade cookies. I use a carabiner to clip their water bottle to my flight bag and carry it with me when I fly. If I put ice in their bottles my drink will stay cold for up to 8 hours. EcoVessel also has a wholesale program and you can co-brand your logo on their bottles, which would be great for my fellow small business-owners out there!
I personally think one of the best gifts for anyone is the gift of travel and I have some fantastic yoga adventure retreats available for 2022. On the booking site you can also take donations from friends and family as well, so if you decide to gift yourself a trip you can have your family contribute. I’ve had several people throughout the years who have had their spouses or parents gift them a retreat and they were always so thrilled. Not only are they gifted with an experience, they also have something to look forward to. One of the best gifts my husband ever gave me was a retreat to Costa Rica with one of my favorite instructors. Everyone looks good in a size window seat!
I’m working on some great winter adventures for you for my future newsletter which I hope you will enjoy. Remember you can always give the gift of a newsletter as well for the person who doesn’t like to plan their own trips, but has too much stuff already.
Wishing you a safe and healthy holiday season and I hope some of these unique gifts spark adventure in you and your family as well!
