Hi adventure seekers! I just got back from an epic trip to Escalante and I can’t wait to give you a few tips on my adventures and how to set yourself up for success in the back country. I’m diving more in to specifics on my paid subscriber newsletter here, but until then I decided to give you one tip that made our trip so enjoyable.
In fact, this little cheap piece of plastic makes every trip easier.
The Luggable Loo.
Yes, this is essentially a bucket with a toilet seat. Inside the bucket you place your wag bags which are essentially bags within bags with a deodorizer in them. Once you go in the bag you tuck it into the second bag and seal it and then you have a great way to contain your human waste that won’t smell up your car or involve digging a whole in the ground. You are encouraged to use wag bags whenever camping in the backcountry, but having a luggable loo is nice if you are car camping and there are no toilets around.
We actually bought one when we started camping with my daughter and we were potty training. We wanted her to have a toilet to use when there were none and we needed a way to pack out solid waste. My husband bought one of these and brought it home and it’s been our go-to camping essential ever since.
The desert can be an unforgiving landscape and the same goes for trying to dig in the dirt. Sometimes the sand and dirt can be like cement and it’s hard to even hammer a tent stake into the ground. So if you need a solution for summer camping and don’t like the idea of digging a hole or trying to use a wag bag on it’s own, then get yourself a portable toilet.
Trust me, you’ll have the most scenic peaceful bathroom atmosphere ever:
